WINTER BREAK IS COMING!! 

December 11, 2017

Curriculum for this week:

LiteratureWe continue with our Unit on “Technology” and reading about different inventors! These also include a lot of Kid inventors, too. You could be next!

Reading-  Reading has never been so exciting! We continue our reading on Technology. It is preparing us for our Science and Technology night in Mid-January. Our Kid Biz Journal will not come home over our winter break. 

MathWe are practicing our 3-digit subtraction in our Go Math.  We continue to practice peer feedback on the math homework piece, so please get everything done and in on Monday. 

WritingWe continue to practice writing through our journals as well as writing practice in our student booklets. This allows us to take notes and reflect about our reading.

Language Skills- We are combining sentences and continuing to practice writing complete sentences in our journals and booklets.

Listening-through-Spelling Skills- In order to be great listeners, we are practicing using more of our spelling sentences during our spelling test. So, make sure you are practicing your sentences so you can do your best on both words and sentences. 

Science/Social Studies- In Soc Studies, we are actually practicing making our own MAP and then presenting it to the class. It will be in our homework packet so watch for it.

Science and Technology night- January 18th is our night to show our science projects. We will choose our project the fist day back (January 9th) and then have that week to create it. We do not have homework over our Christmas break, but we wanted you to be ready for this when your child returns. This is the only homework they are required to do during the first week back.

Art/Music- Our schedule for Art and Music will be every Tuesday afternoon.  We are continuing to prepare for our Spring Musical in both Art and Music.

Curriculum for this week:

LiteratureWe will start our Unit on “Technology” and start reading about different inventors, including some KID inventors!

Reading-  Reading has never been so exciting! We are also reading our non-fiction Kidbiz articles in class about the Monarch Butterflies. Our Kid Biz Journal comes home every Monday, except for our winter break. The prompt for the reading will already be glued in for you. REMEMBER: Guide your child, but let them do the work. This week’s reading is all about  the Monarch Butterflies! 

MathWe have extra time to work on our 2 digit subtraction in our Go Math and mixing a little Eureka Math with it to help support what we know.  We continue to practice peer feedback on the math homework piece, so please get everything done and in on Monday. 

WritingWe are writing in our booklets and journals throughout the day.  Talk to your child about their Kidbiz article they are reading. Remember, the KidBiz journal is due back with the homework. There is also a peer-feedback paper that can only go along with the writing piece if the KidBiz journal comes back with the homework.

Curriculum for this week:

LiteratureWe are finishing up our Unit called “Many Characters, Many Points of View.”  We continue to read many stories from different cultures.

Reading-  We will be reading different stories and looking at the different points of view within our unit. We are also reading our non-fiction Kidbiz articles in class about saving Deer this week. Make sure you watch for our Kid Biz Journal coming home every Monday, now. The prompt for the reading will already be glued in for you. REMEMBER: Guide your child, but let them do the work. This week’s reading is all about Setting the Deer free in Thailand! 

MathWe continue to work on our 2 digit subtraction in our Go Math and mixing a little Eureka Math with it to help support what we know.  We continue to practice peer feedback on the math homework piece, so please get everything done and in. 

WritingWe are writing in our booklets and journals throughout the day.  Talk to your child about their Kidbiz article they are reading. Remember, they are due back with the homework. There is also a peer-feedback paper that will go along with the opinion piece for the next reading.

Language Skills- We are still looking at different r-controlled vowels: this week are the “air, are, ear and ere” words. We will also start comparing adjectives and adverbs.

Listening-through-Spelling Skills- In order to be great listeners, we are practicing using more of our spelling sentences during our spelling test. So, make sure you are practicing your sentences so you can do your best.

Science/Social Studies- In Soc Studies we are learning about suburban, urban, rural areas and there are similarities and differences. We will incorporate this in our writing as well.

LiteratureWe are in our next Unit called “Many Characters, Many Points of View.”  Our literature will re-tell many different and famous stories.

Reading-  We will be reading different stories and looking at the different points of view within our new unit. We are also reading our non-fiction Kidbiz articles in class about Bears this week. Make sure you watch for our Kid Biz Journal coming home every Monday, now The prompt for the reading will already be glued in for you. REMEMBER: Guide your child, but let them do the work. This week’s reading is all about Leaving the BEARS alone! 

MathWe are working on 2 digit subtraction in our Go Math and working hard on our 6 point checklist  so we don’t miss anything in our WORD PROBLEM! We will practice peer feedback on the math homework piece, so please get it in on MONDAY!

WritingWe are writing in our booklets and journals throughout the day. We are starting our KB journals this week so watch for them and talk to your child about them. Remember, they are due back with the homework. There is also taking time to do a peer-feedback paper that will go along with the opinion piece.
